The Steinberg HALion 6 VST Sampler & Sound Creation System (EDU) is a comprehensive virtual sampler and sound design suite aimed at enabling producers and musicians in any musical genre. HALion 6 is completely self-contained, and covers every aspect of the sound design process from audio recording and sample editing to synthesis and modulation. The user interface is also sleek and configurable to suit the specific needs of any given situation, with sound libraries exportable in a ready-to-release format. The oscillators in HALion 6 are excellent for playing and editing samples as well as being used in a more traditional sense for synthesis purposes and the multi-timbral audio engine has many features, including a tone-wheel organ simulator, disk-streaming sample playback and high-end virtual analogue, granular and wavetable synthesis. Time-stretching and pitch-shifting are taken care of by AudioWarp, whilst beats, arpeggios and tonal phrases are processed within the FlexPhraser module, both on the cutting-edge of audio software. Shipping with the download is a comprehensive library with over 3400 synthesized sounds and acoustic instruments, alongside an extensive range of studio effects, such as REVerence (convolution reverb) and the VST Amp Simulation (guitar amp modeller).
HALion 6 supports cross-platform compatibility in both plug-in and stand-alone form – Windows PCs have access to VST 3, VST 2 and AAX whilst Mac OSX computers can use VST 3, AU or AAX to implement the suite into their DAW. This is all in 192kHz for crystal clear sound reproduction, and HALion 6 can employ up to 32 stereo outputs and includes 6-channel surround support.
