The Arturia MatrixBrute Analogue Monophonic Synthesizer is a mammoth of an analog synthesizer. Three Brute oscillators, a Steinway-Parker filter, a ladder filter, 5 analog effects and the incredible modulation matrix make this a formidable piece of kit. At the centre of the MatrixBrute is the modulation matrix which allows you to create your own unique routings. So much more than a step-sequencer, the matrix can be programmed to play sequences and can be used as a modulation source. It also has a bank of 256 presets which can be used to instantly recall any of your patches.
The analog nature of the MaxiBrute means hands-on interaction and sound-processing that is very difficult for similar digital effects processing to match. All of the unit’s modules are visible on the board and can be tuned and adjusted with immediate results in an intuitive fashion – no searching through screens of menus and lists of sounds.
Arturia have included a traditional beefy Ladder filter with both 12db and 24db per octave slopes as well as Low Pass, High Pass & Band Pass modes and a Drive control. This filter design is known for making punchy bass and thick lead sounds. There are multiple keyboard voice modes for mono, paraphonic and duo-split modes. Split oscillators for paraphonic mode or use the duo split mode to play a sequence while playing notes over the top of it. The Steiner Parker filter has been updated to support both 12db per octave and 24db per octave slopes as well as a DRIVE control for making thicker sounds. The 4 modes, Low pass, band pass, high pass, and notch allow for a vast array of sound making possibilites.
The Pitch-Bend and Modulation wheels can be set as destinations during routing as well as performing in their usual capacity. Mix and blend Oscillators 1, 2, 3, as well as the noise generator and EXTERNAL input sources. Route each mixer input to the filter of your choice using the FILTER assign buttons.
At the back of the MaxiBrute there are an array of Inputs/Outputs, MIDI Interfacing, USB Connectivity, Pedal Inputs and Control Voltage Interfacing to cater for practically any musicians needs.
One of the best synths I’ve ever owned! Absolutely love it! The sound, the easy of use and the modulation matrix is amazing! Started with Drumbrute and then Minibrute and before long I had to get the matrixbrute! Instant classic.
