Live and broadcast applications
The Electro Voice RE 20 is a dynamic large-diaphragm microphonewithcardioid characteristics and has been specially developed for the reproduction of speech in the field of broadcasting. The housing design compensates for a large part of the proximity effect, allowing the speaker more freedom of movement in front of the microphone. Other features such as the special capsule suspension, a built-in pop shield that does not attenuate speech, and a hum-canceling coil that cancels interference voltages make the RE 20 one of the microphones least susceptible to interference - a must in live situations such as those that are commonplace in broadcasting. In addition, attention was paid to a particularly soft, even "finished" sound that can basically be broadcast directly, regardless of the voice color of the speaker. Today, this benefits streamers and Youtubers in particular, who often work alone and can use every bit of labor savings.
Big in the studio
Like many microphones originally developed for journalists, the Electro Voice RE 20 has found its way into the recording studio: There it shines as an all-purpose weapon, lending a powerful, big sound to Bass Drum and brass instruments in particular. But also toms or, in a special case, the lower drum of a Leslie cabinet are often miked with the RE 20. Last but not least, it is also used as a vocal microphone at studios, lending additional power to sonorous baritone or tenor voices.
Important: Similar to the Shure SM7B, the RE 20, as a large-diaphragm dynamic microphone, does not provide a particularly high output level and is therefore dependent on a good preamplifier. For safety, a Tritonaudio FetHead can be used to keep the noise level low.
