The small diaphragm ML-2 condenser microphone from Slate Digital is a professional modeling microphone, which can accurately emulate well-known classic microphones thanks to its extremely linear and distortion-free frequency response as well as the Virtual Microphone System software - no matter if dynamic mics like the 57 and 421, ribbon microphones (e.g. 121), popular small condenser microphones like the 451 and 222 or even 414 and Tube 67 large diaphragm condenser. You have the choice between 18 different emulations for every recording session and every requirement in everyday studio life. Also on board is a proprietary "Dynamic" switch that attenuates the microphone's output and repolarizes the capsule, allowing high SPL applications such as miking drums, guitar cabs and more.
Even though the ML-2 can be combined with any preamp, Slate Digital's VRS8 audio interface is recommended for best results. When using audio interfaces, you should use Thunderbolt interfaces or fast USB interfaces to ensure latency-free processing at 96 kHz and low buffer size.
I did a lot of research before buying two of these mics for a stereo recording setup (mainly acoustic guitar and upright piano). I was not disappointed.
1) They sound great on their own. 2) The mic modelling is incredible! There’s so much choice for tone during and after recording. 3) The price is so reasonable. I’ll probably get another pair just to have them
