The Aerodrums are undoubtedly one the most groundbreaking innovations the drum world has witnessed in recent years. It is effectively a completely invisible and perfectly silent drum. A camera detects the movements of the drummer’s feet and sticks as they move through the air and transfers this data to a computer program, which then synchronizes these movements with first-class drum sounds. Drums and cymbals are visible on the screen of the computer, to help with orientation. It doesn’t take long to get used the feeling, or lack there of, of the Aerodrums to play it like a normal drum set.
A camera detects the movements of hands and feet and transfers this data to the drumset onscreen. With the help from the included sensors on the Aerodrum drum sticks and with the feet reflectors, play feels dynamic and impressively accurate.
The sticks hit nothing but air, however on screen you can see and hear exactly what you are doing. The sample of the Aerodrums software are dynamic and recorded with brand name instruments such Gretsch and Yamaha. The Hi-Hat alone possesses 58 samples to generate a realistic open and closed sounds.
The Aerodrums Set fits into every back-pack and easy to transport. It takes just a few moments to get going wherever you can take laptop. The drummer is given the freedom to practice in any space without upsetting their neighbors, the Aerodrums can also be used to quickly record fresh ideas. The Aerodrums are not suited for practicing at home, live on stage it also makes a great impression and offer a practical alternative to lugging around an entire acoustic drum kit every time.
