In the design of the Standard SML721 electric guitar, Ibanez pays special attention to first-class playing characteristics and a harmonically perfectly balanced sound. Accordingly, a multiscale construction with moderately ascending scale lengths between 25" and 25.5" (635 mm to 648 mm) is used, which gives each string optimal tension and reproduces even slight drop tunings cleanly. Extremely thin, ergonomic shaping allows the Nyatoh body to hug the body with ideal balance, while the flat "Wizard" profile of the five-piece maple-walnut neck promises excellent playability in all registers. Besides fluorescent side dots, furthermore the nickel-free jumbo frets made of hard Jescar EVOgold material prove to be an innovative highlight of the electric guitar.

As a pickup for the Axe Design Lab SML721 guitar Ibanez chooses two Q58 humbuckers known from the headless Q series. As contemporary ceramic pickups, the dual coils convince with a clearly defined sound image that cleanly reproduces even complex chord structures and skillfully asserts itself with powerful mids and crisp but never harsh highs even in the densest Mix. In order to elicit, particularly multifaceted clean and overdrive sounds from the guitar amplifier, Ibanez also combines the Q58 pickups with the complex dyna-MIX10 electrics, which thanks to the 5-waypickup switch and age switch provides a total of ten different switching of the pickups or their coils. In addition, general volume and tone controls are available for adjusting the sound.
Gold-plated Gotoh locking tuners guarantee high tuning stability and fast string changes.
