With the ADI-2-Pro FS, RME offers an AD/DA converter of the absolute reference class which combines USB 2.0 interface, headphone amplifier and multi-format converter in one device. The ADI-2 Pro FS features high-quality components and sophisticated circuits in a practical half rack-width enclosure. Depending on the connection used, the ADI-2 Pro automatically switches to operation as an AD/DA converter, as a USB interface or as an analog preamplifier. Of course a manual selection is also possible.
The ADI-2 Pro offers two servo-balanced analog inputs designed as XLR/jack combination sockets. In addition, it provides separate balanced and unbalanced outputs as XLR and jack. Two Extreme Power stereo headphone outputs on the front panel, ADAT compatible optical SPDIF I/O, coaxial SPDIF (Cinch) and AES I/O (XLR) via supplied cable whip are also available. These extensive connection options enable uncompromising and flexible signal transmission of the highest quality. The USB 2.0 port allows connection to compatible iOS devices and is also used for firmware updates. The integrated sample rate converter and the latest RME SteadyClock III technology effectively eliminate all clocking problems between SPDIF and AES at breathtaking sample rates of up to 768kHz. The current version has an improved SteadyClock FS with even lower jitter, based on a Femtosecond quartz oscillator and an improved PLL. An optional AutoDark mode automatically turns off the backlight of the display, buttons and encoders (the standby button remains illuminated).
Based on a femto-clock - one femtosecond is one quadrillionth of a second - SteadyClock FS reduces the ADI-2 Pro FS's jitter content to a new low. The AutoDark function, with which all illuminated elements of the device can be deactivated (with the exception of the standby button), has also been adopted. Thus the studio user receives feedback about the ON/Off status of the converter at any time. The lighting can be reactivated by pressing any key or turning a potentiometer.
