The Eve Audio SC2070 is a modern, DSP-controlled studio monitor for near- and midfield applications. For this model, Eve Audio has developed a new, enlarged AMT tweeter, allowing it to reduce the crossover frequency between high bass driver from 2.7 to a remarkably low 1.8kHz. This moves the crossover frequency out of a critical listening area and allows for a clearer, more detailed soundstage, similar to that of a 3-way speaker. Highs and high mids are reproduced with the highest precision and signal fidelity, while the necessary transition to the bass driver takes place well below the presence range, which is especially important for voices.
Due to the powerful Class-D power amplifiers, the speaker achieves a maximum level of an impressive 113dB SPL per speaker at a distance of 1m, making it suitable for longer listening distances. The DSP with high-quality Burr Brown chips in the transducer architecture thereby allows the adjustment of bass, treble and midrange characteristics via the Smart Knob on the front for quick and easy optimization of the listening situation. Finally, the DSP of the SC2070 is directly coupled to the power amplifier without a DA converter: Sound losses due to further electronics and the necessary conversion step are thus excluded - typical concerns about DSP-based speaker systems no longer play castor here.
The SC2070's DSP, as with all Eve Audio monitors, allows a number of parameters to be adjusted directly via the knob on the front panel called Smart Knob: here bass, treble and midrange can be boosted or cut in 0.5dB increments. The filter frequencies are at 300Hz shelf, 1kHz bell and 3kHz shelf and thus allow an effective adaptation of the sound to the nature of the listening room and your own listening habits. An additional desk filter fulfils 2 functions and allows the steep cut at 170Hz and boost at 80Hz to compensate for the reflection effects of a desk or console or to give the bass range additional pressure.
