The Epiphone Dave Grohl DG-335 Pelham Blue at a glance
Dave Grohl is without question one of the biggest and most popular personalities in rock. While he was still proving his talents as a drummer for the legendary grunge pioneers Nirvana in the early nineties, Dave was already hard at work on numerous song ideas of his own, which never made it into the band's discography. Therefore, after Kurt Cobain died in 1994, he founded the Foo Fighters, which, as Dave's creative outlet, would become one of the biggest active bands on the rock scene over the next 30 years. With the Epiphone Dave Grohl DG-335 Pelham Blue, the guitar makers at Epiphone are now paying tribute to a very special instrument that has faithfully accompanied Dave Grohl in his role as frontman of his band over the years and boasts numerous unique features.
As a loving recreation of Dave's famous semi-hollow electric guitar, Epiphone is sending the Dave Grohl DG-335 Pelham Blue into the race for fans and collectors.
The body of the Dave Grohl ES-335 made of maple and poplar laminate has two 'Diamond' holes and a classy 'Pelham Blue' high-gloss finish.
ES-335 construction with 'Diamond' holes
Although the Dave Grohl DG-335 initially has the usual construction features of classic ES-335 models and is made of three-ply maple/poplar laminate for the top, back and sides, it also features unmistakable elements of the highly sought-after Trini Lopez signature model. Instead of the usual F-holes, the instrument features two Diamond Sound Holes, which give the electric guitar its high recognition value. Also unusual and different from the basic model is the 6-in-lineheadstock of the one-piece mahogany neck, which is painted opaque black.
The two burst bucker humbuckers of the Dave Grohl DG-335 from Gibson were wound in the USA.
Original Gibson USA Burstbucker pickups
When choosing the right pickups, Dave opted for a combination of a Gibson USA Burstbucker 2 humbucker on the neck and a Burstbucker 3 humbucker in the bridge position. The two double coilers are characterized by their increased Output for hot rock sounds, but at the same time offer sufficient dynamic range to provide the appropriate depth of character even in softer areas. The classic wiring includes high-quality CTS potentiometers, original Mallory capacitors and components from the US manufacturer Switchcraft.
LockTone hardware & Grover Rotomatics
As a genuine Epiphone electric guitar, the Dave Grohl DG-335 Pelham Blue naturally relies on a LockTone Tune-o-Matic bridge with a corresponding LockTone stopbar. As both components can be fixed on their pins, the overall resonance transmission between string and body is improved, so that the ingenious system achieves an optimized response and better sustain values in contrast to classic bridge constructions. The Epiphone Dave Grohl DG-335 is completed by six Grover Mini Rotomatics, which not only ensure precise tuning, but also contribute to the model's iconic headstock silhouette.
