Shakmat Modular Four Bricks Rook is a Quad Trigger Sequence Generator in Eurorack format with an intuitive user interface and deep sequencing capabilities. It offers some interesting features like CV-controlled memory of 128 tables with 32 step sequences, precise timing, also for off-beat rhythms, a function for auto randomizer/pattern fills and four different modes in which the pads work.
The potentiometers
The module has three large potentiometers. With the shift potentiometer it is possible to switch through different segments of the sequences. The table potentiometer allows you to select different sequences from the memory and the length potentiometer allows you to set the length of the selected sequence.
The function modes of the pads
By pressing the Function button and the corresponding pad, different pad functions can be selected in the Four Bricks Rook. In Play mode, the pads can be used as manual triggers and you can record your own rhythms with the Record function. In pattern mode, different patterns can be selected from memory and loaded into the buffer memory. New triggers can be added to these patterns in Play mode, and in Fill mode the patterns are only played when the corresponding pad is pressed. Together with movements of the table potentiometer, complex rhythms can be generated and recorded with the record button, and with mute mode, tracks can be muted by pressing the pads. This function can also be used to create interesting rhythms that can be recorded.
