The Yamaha YRS-402 is a three-piece soprano recorder made of Ecodear™. This special plastic is an environmentally conscious variant in which part of the conventional petroleum-based material has been replaced with resins made from plant starch.
Advantages of Ecodear™
The special material of the YRS-402 has a much higher density compared to normal plastic. As a result, these flutes achieve a more centred sound, improved blowing resistance, and easier response. These improvements make the Ecodear™ models sound even more like a wooden recorder. The windway of the YRS-402 B also has a more pronounced camber and now meets the standard of professional recorders.

Bought this for my daughter, who has a variety of recorders of different materials/brands/prices. The sound of this instrument is just really, really good -incredibly similar to her (LOTS more expensive) "pro" pearwood recorder.
