The BAE Audio 1073 is probably one of the few really serious reissues of this milestone of classic recording studio technology. Here, not only the electronic components, but also all rotary switches, potentiometers, sockets, knobs and small parts have been manufactured to the highest quality and fidelity to the original. The internal and external workmanship is also absolutely impeccable and corresponds to the current state of manufacturing technology and care.
Of course, the BAE 1073 comes correctly with an external desktop power supply and is operated with 72V working voltage, which is necessary to achieve the correct working point of the outwardly unusual circuit topology. Copies of the 1073 often operate with only 18 or 24V, with the consequence that signal-to-noise ratio, dynamic range and total distortion deteriorate dramatically and the typical frequency response of a 1073 cannot be reproduced authentically. Who saves here has lost twice. It is better to buy the original or a reasonable replica like the one from BAE. Important plus point: This item comes with a power supply for 2 units. The setup can be extended by another BAE channel with less additional costs.
