The Blackstar Silverline Standard at a glance
The Silverline Standard delivers authentic boutique amp tones without tearing a massive hole in your wallet, thanks to a powerful SHARC processor and innovative Blackstar TVP Technology. Here, six tube responses from the most popular power amp tubes deliver the authentic feel and dynamic response of a full-blown tube amp, while six voicings cover the entire gain spectrum from crystal-clear cleans to juicy crunch and Overdrive to hot Distortion. In addition to the 2-band equalizer, the typical ISF pot helps to find the optimal sound. furthermore, the Blackstar Silverline Standard Combo provides integrated effects from the areas of modulation, Delay and Reverb that add the final touch to the sound if desired. While 20 watts of power and a 10" Celestion V-Type speaker promise sufficient volume reserves for enjoyable practicing at home, the combo amp also proves to be an ideal amp for the recording studio thanks to the integrated USB audio interface and the line/headphone output with speaker simulation.
Firstly, the build quality is very good and the amp looks like something boutique. Very classy.
My previous amp was a Blackstar HT-1R but I wanted something more versatile. I've also owned a Boss Katana but sold it because I spent more time within it's software editor than playing. The Blackstar Silverline appealed because everything you need is on the top panel. Yes, there is their Insider software if that's your cup of tea (and you're not a Mac user running Catalina) but it's not neccessary to get great tones.
The available voices and tube responses in the Silverline really offer a great deal of tonal flexibility. I've been playing some Alice in Chains and Tool riffs with a down-tuned Les Paul and this amp can give me that heavy Marshall-like sound. Switching to my Strat and the amp set to a Fender-ish clean tone and the Silverline sounds superb. Set on a clean channel and it takes my pedals (The Dane and The Pelt) drive/fuzz pedals with aplomb. I've barely scratched the surface of what this amp can do but it's delivered fantastic tone on everything I've tried so far.
The effects are excellent with just enough options to get great sounds without getting swamped. The headphone output of this amp sounds great and which is good news for anyone who needs silent practice. Unplug your headphones and turn up the amp and it sounds really nice: lots of bass response from the Celestion 10" speaker, and it responds appropriately to playing dynamics and it really does sound and feel like a tube amp. And it's loud. The 20 watts on offer on the Silverline Standard are real watts not like some solid state amps.
I can't ever see myself replacing this amp -- it does everything I want in a good looking, great sounding, compact package.
