Gibson USA naturally provides the Kirk Hammett "Greeny" 1959 Les Paul with a Lifton case, also modelled after the original, and a signed certificate of authenticity.
The Gibson Kirk Hammett "Greeny" 1959 Les Paul Standard Greeny Burst #932592 is a recreation of that guitar that has been played by Peter Green, Gary Moore and Kirk Hammett.
Gibson 1959 "Greeny" Les Paul Standard - in the hands of three legends
Hardly any electric guitar can look back on such an eventful history as the famous 'Greeny'. Built-in the golden year of 1959, the Les Paul with serial number 9 2208 was first heard in the hands of Peter Green and numerous recordings of Fleetwood Mac, then since the early seventies it shaped the unique sound of none other than Gary Moore. After Gary's untimely death, Kirk Hammett finally bought the iconic relic of guitar music at auction in 2014, which he still plays today in his castor as lead guitarist with Metallica on the biggest stages in the world.
The top of the Kirk Hammett "Greeny" 1959 Les Paul Standard was handpicked to be as close to the original as possible.
Mahogany body & LP-style maple top.
Like all Les Paul models of 1959, the Greeny features the unbeatable tonewood combination of a mahogany body and a two-piece flamed maple top with the classic top carving of the era. The top wood was handpicked for its grain and quality to authentically recreate the tonal and visual characteristics of Kirk's Greeny, and numerous traces of the original are placed in the right places.
Under the hood, the Gibson Kirk Hammett "Greeny" 1959 Les Paul Standard Greeny Burst features hand-wired wiring with authentic components.
Custom Greeny Bucker with unique configuration
The sonic peculiarity of the Greeny is clearly its peculiar pickup arrangement. Unlike regular Les Pauls, the Custom Greeny Bucker neck pickup here is not only mounted in reverse but also features an inverted Alnico II magnet. This results in a special out-of-phase sound in the intermediate position of the pickup selector switch, which is the unique sound character of the 'Greeny' Les Paul. Of course, the hand-wired wiring uses only components that follow the classic recipe in the form of high-quality potentiometers and Bumblebee capacitors.
Even the patched 'headstock crack' was recreated to match the prototype as part of this replica model.
Hardware equipment with authentic ageing.
Even the attachments of the Gibson Kirk Hammett "Greeny" 1959 Les Paul Standard Greeny Burst #932592 tell the story of the prototype. While the Gibson ABR-1 Tune-o-Matic bridge and lightweight aluminium Stopbar feature lovingly recreated ageing, the headstock showcases six Sperzel tuners that Gary Moore added as part of his time with the instrument and can still be seen on the original Greeny today. All ageing processes on this replica were naturally performed by the expert team and ageing guru Tom Murphy.
