This 14"x6,5" snare is a must for every "Metal" drummer but can also be very effective as a "Rock" snare and can be even used as a more "Jazz-y" Snare in some rare cases.
As soon as I tried it I fell in love with it. The Sledge Hammer provides the drummer with a loud, direct and aggressive sound. Combine that with a good player and the result can be amazing!
The only problem is that it is a very heavy snare drum (it weights about 6kg if I remember well), something which can make its transport slightly "annoying".
Finally, I plan buying it myself and I really recomend buying it or, at least, trying it!
Sound: Aggressive, loud, full and well rounded. Due to its hammering the sound is a bit dry and focused. Produces a great sound in mid and high tuning, havent tried low yet.
Construction: Great workmanship and looks amazing also. The final color is a mix of gold and black. It is a heavy snare though so a good carrying case is a must.
In essence for me this snare is the poor mans Ludwig "Black Beauty". I have recorded with both of them with the same sound engineer and he was amazed to how good the Sledge Hammer was sounding, no so different from the Black Beauty.
No better judge than your ears of course, go to your nearest shop and test it yourselves.
