Wherever people speak, the PodMic is in its element
With the PodMicW,RODE presents a compact speaker microphone tailored to the compact podcast mixers of the RodeCaster series. It is easily connected via the three-pin XLR socket, while a suitable Preset is already available in the RodeCaster menu. The PodMic microphone is also suitable for broadcast, radio play and dubbing studios and scores with a professional, dynamiccardioid capsule as well as its own swivel mount, with which it can be fixed to a table stand (DS1) or swivel arm (PSA1) and conveniently aligned towards the speaker. The capsule itself is elastically suspended, while the swivel mount is internally decoupled from the body, eliminating the need for a microphone spider.
What are the advantages of the PodMic?
The Rode PodMic W is a dynamic microphone and significantly less sensitive than a condenser microphone. It is therefore ideally suited for studios and speaker rooms that have to contend with ambient noise and/or unfavourable room acoustics. Tailored to speech transmission and with a detailed, full and balanced sound, the microphone is always pleasant to listen to - both for the gentle recitation of poetry and for rousing sports reports.

Features and processing
The double-layered stainless steel speaker basket and a fabric grille over the capsule effectively counteract explosive consonants and sibilants without impairing transparency - making the use of an external pop filter unnecessary. The robust housing is made of solid brass and has a scratch-resistant ceramic coating, which is why it still looks high quality even after years of use.
It's a definite for streamers who looking to hit the ground running with solid sound on a budget. The PodMic has an entry-level price point for a mic that will last a lifetime

Very solidly built and inspires confidence. I also have a Sure SM7b so was able to compare directly. I would not say either one is 'better' or 'worse' than the other, just (as with many microphones of similar design) there are some differences in 'character' that you might prefer - or not. They are quite close. The Podmic does have a slightly higher output than the SM7b, which does reduce the amount of preamp gain required. I am running it into a Universal Audio Apollo Twin, and find +55db is adequate. Overall - a very good microphone in it's own right.
