The latest addition to the Reveal line from Tannoy brings us the almighty Tannoy Reveal 802 Active Studio Monitors featuring a 1” tweeter and 8” woofer.
With enough bottom end to cover mixing in any Genre, from Hip-Hop to electronic dance music, the Reveal 802 is a truly versatile nearfield monitor speaker for the home or professional studio. Engineered from the ground up by Dr. Paul Mills, the Reveal 802 features an extended sweet spot for moving around your mixing environment without losing any of the stereo imaging or detail. A front-firing bass port means monitor placement close to walls is no problem.
On the rear of the reveal 802 active studio monitors you will find balanced and unbalanced inputs, as well as an auxiliary input for connecting a phone or tablet device. There are also controls for tuning the speakers to your monitoring environment with a volume and EQ selector switch.
The main features of the Tannoy Reveal 802 Active Studio Monitors include:
I spent a lot of time exploring various options for monitors for my home studio.
I make electronic music, so after reading up on things I felt needed the 8" woofer for the synth real low end.
These were a great price (£135 each) and that was one of the deciding factors as well.
The sound is very compelling and full. The bass is deep but controlled. It's a revalation after my last speakers that were 6". I have put a set of bass traps and other acoustic pads around my studio to stop the bass booming, which it did at first. But as they have warmed up, the bass has become much more controlled.
I don't use them for vocals, but I have been playing vocal music through them when I at my computer and female vocals in particular sound outstanding (don't really listen to male singers much so can't comment).
They have a wide sweet spot, and the stereo imaging has me smiling in some songs I listen to. I hear stereo imaging that I have only heard before on my AKG 701 headphones that are re known for this level of detail.
The tweeter is bright but not overly so, and I am sensitive to too much top end. Again they benefited from burning in.
Neutral? I don't think any monitors are really neutral and all have their own flavour, so it always pays to try if you can. I read reviews and looked for traits that I like in my own monitoring and these really fit the bill.
I genuinely feel these are a great buy for studio monitoring (and general listening). You will not need a sub-woofer unless you have a huge studio.
I always look forward to putting them on to listen to my mixes, and other music when I'm busy doing stuff on my computer, that's how revealing they are. It's my first try of 8" woofers and I won't be going back to smaller ones!
To get the best out of them, I have them on isolation pads, connected to my Presonus USB interface, via Van Damme XLR balanced cables. This connects to my sound-card via USB. Very simple and a clean path to minimise interference.
There is a slight hum, but I have had this on all my powered monitors and it's only noticeable when around 5 cm from the speakers and not were I have them placed in near field position. I am easily bothered by undue noise, so I promise it's not an issue, I just wanted to be absolutely honest. Connect these up correctly and you'll be good to go.
Absolutely thrilled with these bad boys and they will be in my studio for years to come.
Recomendo a quem andar à procura de bons monitores pois estes têm uma otima gama de baixos.
Bons para produção de musica eletrónica.
They are very good monitors because they have a good bass what make them the best speakers in terms of quality and money for eletronic music producing.
I already use Tannoy Reveal 502. Great sound, great construction.
Decided to upgrade to enhance the Bass quality so purchased these 802's... Wonderful audio quality together with great craftsmanship. I am not dissapointed.
