Introducing Boom Chick Analog Drum Machine
Cre8audio Boom Chick at a glance
With Boom Chick, Cre8audio presents an analog drum computer that was developed in collaboration with Pittsburgh Modular. The compact device has five analog Drum voices that can be programmed and arranged using the internal sequencer. The sounds are divided into the channels kick, snare, Drum 1+2 and hats and cover a very versatile spectrum of electronic percussion sounds. Whether for house, electro, IDM or industrial, Boom Chic has something suitable on offer. The channels Drum 1 + 2 are structured in the same way, with a button combination one of seven FM-Mod waveforms can be called up, which has a fundamental influence on the sound. The Hats track covers Open and Closed hi-hat together. Like most drum computers of the last 40 years, the easy-to-understand sequencer can be conveniently programmed in the TR grid and offers a number of modern features. Thanks to the many inputs and outputs, Boom Chic can be integrated into any Eurorack and MIDI setup.
The sequencer
The sequencer is located in the lower third of the Donner Hühnchen. The sequencer offers six tracks; the first four are for the instruments kick, snare, Drum 1 + 2, the hats channel is doubled with open and Closed hihat, but can be played in one voice like the historical TR models. The drums can be programmed as usual in the TR grid or via (quantized) live input. A total of 64 patterns can be saved, a pattern can have a length of up to 64 steps (4 bars), whereby an individual step length per instrument is also possible(polyrhythm). If you like it a little more sophisticated, you can use the Euclidean pattern generator and make use of features such as trigger probability, step roll and shuffle. For the sake of completeness, 16 songs can be saved. If you prefer to use all the functions directly in the Eurorack system, simply remove Boom Chick from the case and place it in a Eurorack case, where it will take up 40HP of space.
The patch panel
is clearly and unmistakably structured: Inputs in pink, outputs in white. For interaction with semi-modular instruments and/or a Eurorack modular system, there are clock and Reset inputs and outputs to be able to synchronize the Boom Chick analogue. In addition, there are five trigger inputs and the Drum voices can be played from any trigger such as a random sequencer. The MIDI inputs and outputs are accessible via MIDI/TRS adapters. The drum computer can be synchronized with other MIDI equipment via MIDI. In addition, trigger notes are sent and received by the sequencer. This means that the device can also be used as a Drum expander in combination with a Master sequencer. In addition to the main out and the headphone output, there are five individual outputs for the Drum voices.
