The AKG C 214 Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone
Introducing the AKG C214, a versatile condenser microphone that works equally well on vocals, amplified guitars and orchestral instruments. Combining the legendary 414 dual capsule system with AKG back plate technology, the C 214 is capable of handling the demands of high pressure sound from loud amplifiers but also has the wide frequency response to enable it to pick up the sensitivity of instrument and vocal sounds. As a member of the acclaimed C414 family, the AKG C 214 has a more punchy delivery and uses a 1-inch edge-terminated large diaphragm capsule to deliver a highly detailed sound. With a huge dynamic range of 143dB, the C214 can accurately capture even the most transient of details. The C214 can be expanded using the pre-attenuation pad to increase its frequency by 20dB for very loud sound sources such as drum kits and guitar kids and this prevents overloading of the preamp. A 13dB noise floor and low-cut switch removes unwanted low frequency rumble such as floor vibrations. Additional features such as integrated suspension, a double mesh grill, gold plated XLR-type output connector and specially designed circuitary all aim to minimise unwanted noise levels.

AKG C 214Hi, Recently I bought this microfone for my home studio and I was very pleased when I start using it. The Solid voice and wide range of diapason brings me more than satisfaction. compare withother similar company I choose this one because it suits my vocal data and I like to hear the sound it produces. the voice looks like a life not too smooth not too sharp, and most greatest thing its not get coated or over loaded. I use it with the distance of 20-25 cm and have all acoustic isolation arround so I dont get confused of any other nose. Very good on male and female vocals especially for singers with a broad range as it handles pressure really well.
On guitars I suggest not to scoop the mids of your amp as this mic is very flat in the midrange (which is a good thing) and you do want the guitars to cut through the mix
99% of the time when you're using 414's live you are using them as cardioid. The 214's offer the same quality as their 414 counterparts, but at a fraction of the price. Highly recommend.
We are just playing back the recording we made of the B.S.O. as a “Virtual Orchestra” in the Pit. In an appraisal of the C214 a reviewer said “How often do you use your AKG C414 in other than Cardioid? Good question and the answer is “rarely” So why pay double the price when the same Large Capacitor comes in the C214? ‘Nuff said! True we had more than two C214’s in the Session - more like 50 - 60 a real mix of large Condensers and small. Even snuck in a pair of Schoeps for the Clarts.! And a number of Neumanns. But the C214’s are in a class of their own - with a full rich sound. Thank you!
