With the Bugera PS1 Power Soak, guitar amplifiers can easily be tamed and played at neighbor-friendly levels without significantly affecting the sound. Up to 100 watts of power can be continuously reduced, whereby connections with 4 ohms, 8 ohms and 16 ohms ensure broad compatibility with tops and combos. The reduced guitar signal can be passed on to the guitar speaker via the speaker output, while an unbalanced line out with level control and a balanced output are available for recording purposes. Thanks to mic simulation, the latter delivers the sound of a microphones in a guitar cabinet.
Not sure if I got a duff one but I bought this having read the glowing reviews. When it arrived all looked promising,, nice and compact but full of features BUT when I hooked it into my Fender Blues Deluxe re-issue things went sadly down hill. As soon as I cranked up the soak and the clean volume on the amp the clean channel turned into the dirty channel - and not a very nice one either. I specifically wanted the unit to allow me to enjoy the tonal benefits of the clean channel when playing in a small venue - instead of having to have the amp level so close to '0' that it barely got warm. Alas this is NOT the solution I wanted and it looks like I will have to buy another, smaller, amp for these gigs instead. Very disappointing.
I have a small studio that I record in and use for a rehearsal space for my band and needed a way of reducing the volume when not on stage but still get the tones from my valve amp. This is the definitely the right piece of kit for the job!! Having reviewed many attenuators on the net this one had received the best results for the money. I am only using though as an attenuator and not a direct line out as I still prefer to mic my amp for recording and live use, but the attenuation is excellent and enables you to get the warm valve tones at much lower volumes. Highly recommended!!
I have two vintage valve amps, neither of which has master volume or an effects loop. But I can separate the amps from the speakers - this attenuator/power soak goes in-between and is the perfect way to get the valve tone without the crazy volume. It covers amps up to 100 watts and 4,8,16 ohm outputs - really good price from DV247 as well.
