Athru by Instruo is an analogue wavefolder that has its origins in West Coast synthesis and adds more harmonics to waveforms. Best results are achieved with sine or triangle as signal input, other waveforms should definitely be tried as well. Controllable is the number of wave convolutions and their symmetry. For both parameters there are control voltage inputs, Wavefold even has its own attenuator for even more precise modulations. The module generates new sounds from the incoming audio signal, ranging from subtle overtone enhancement to total spectral devastation. Often these sounds have a rather metallic character, but this is not to be confused with ring modulation. The Drive switch adds harmonic distortion to the input signal, depending on the waveform used, the result turns out more subtle to harsher before entering the Wavefolder. Once a cable is plugged into the Strike jack, the Wavefolder is only active when a Gate or Trigger signal arrives. On the back of the module you will find a simple decay envelope, which sets the course of Strike in time. This way a contextual use of the wavefolder is possible, e.g. when a clock divider passes a Gate every two bars for the duration of a quarter bar.
