The Korg MS-20 FS Monophonic Synthesizer (Blue) is technically identical to the MS-20 Mini, but comes in a standard-sized Case, not unlike the original. The MS-20 FS features large Knobs, 37x standard Keys and a full-size routing section. The Filter is similar to earlier models of the MS-20, which utilised the IC35 Chip. This Chip produces a rough, Fuzz-like resonance, which discolours the Waveform of the output signal.
Faithful Recreation
2x Analogue Oscillators with Pulse-Width Modulation, Ring Modulator and Noise Generator form the sonic foundation of the MS-20 FS, which is processed by a very charismatic serially connected High-Pass/Low-Pass Filter. The Modulation sources consist of 2x Envelopes, which can be distinguished between Hold-ADSR and Delay-AR, as well as the LFO (with variable wave symmetry); all 3x are assigned to the Oscillators and the 2x Filters with Rotary Controls.
The right side of the face holds the Patch Bay. Here you will find numerous Control Voltage Inputs and Outputs for the various function groups, but also an open Sample & Hold, an additional, freely accessible VCA and the Noise Generator.
Signal Processor
Another highlight of the Korg MS-20 FS is the Signal Processor, which derives a Band-Pass sound from the incoming Audio Signal that can be shaped in highs and lows, recognizes the Pitch and Outputs it as a Control Voltage and generates Envelope Follower including Trigger/Gate. These 5x parameters are "sensibly" wired to the Inputs of the Patch Bay, making the Korg MS-20 FS a self-contained Filter box for intensive processing of external sounds.
