With the Martin 00-42S Custom, the American traditional manufacturer presents one of its famous Custom Shop models, which is equipped with selected materials and, in addition to an individual appearance, also convinces with an incomparable sound. The craftsmanship of the almost 200 year old family business is easily recognizable in the numerous inlays and decorations made of abalone and, in addition to a solid construction, gives the instrument the quintessence that has delighted Martin fans all over the world to this day. An interplay of fine rosewood and a construction that has been thought out to the millimeter produces a fast-responding sound that fades out long-lasting in the overtones and transitions smoothly into the next note. The playability of the flat mahogany neck is also a joy to play up to the highest frets, as a strong neck profile allows for a clean grip with little effort. The characteristic open headstock is equipped with gold side-mount tuners, which, along with the venerable Martin lettering in abalone and a headplate made of evenly grained rosewood, discreetly emphasize the guitar's value. The Martin 00-42S Custom comes with a custom-fitted Custom Shop case and a certificate.
In order to produce a light and powerful response, the manufacturer relies on the wood of the Californian Sitka spruce, which has a powerful vibration behaviour due to its fine structure, which is further enhanced by flat bracing and a wafer-thin high-gloss finish. The high-quality spruce top produces a very clear and voluminous sound, which is particularly pronounced in the mid and treble frequencies. Framed by an elaborate abalone binding, the even grain of the evenly grained wood is particularly accentuated and thus receives a high-quality touch, which is enriched by an abalone-with-multi-striped soundhole rosette. The white bridge pins with abalone dots set into a dark ebony bridge create a fine interplay between binding, soundhole and the fingerboard that rests on the top from the 12th fret.
Easily recognizable by its straight grain, the body made of the finest East Indian rosewood gives the instrument a unique touch that lives up to the Custom Shop designation in every way. The opened back is divided with an elaborate backstrip, which emphasizes the symmetry of the wood in a very tasteful way. Sonically, the noble tropical wood provides a rich tone that colors the bass frequencies in a strong and defined way and adds a basic saturation to the tiny 00-12 fret construction. To ensure clean access to all 20 frets, the manufacturer relies on a flat mahogany neck with a grippy profile and an ebony fingerboard adorned with intricate Style 45 abalone snowflake inlays, skillfully bordered by an abalone binding on the 12th fret to the toned top. For a clean intonation on the entire scale length of 632 mm a compensated saddle made of bone provides, which is optimally adapted to a 44,45 mm wide bone saddle. Gold side-mount tuners allow for precise string tuning and, together with a tasteful headstock made of evenly grained rosewood, white binding and abalone "C.F. Martin" lettering, round out the overall appearance in a very tasteful way.
