AKAI MPX 16 Sampler
Sample Recorder, Player & Pad Controller
The Akai MPX16 Portable Sampler is the latest sampler from Akai professional who few would argue are true innovators when it comes to sampling.
The MPX16 features 16 MPC style pads, plays and records CD quality .WAV samples using SD cards and is also a fully featured MIDI pad controller. In addition to these features the MPX16 features onboard recording via the inbuilt stereo microphone or through 6.3mm (1/4 inch) inputs.
Akai MPX16 users can assign audio clips to the pads and sculpt these sounds using the onboard tuning, filters, envelopes and 'choke' grouping which allows for dynamic performances. Visual feedback is provided by both an LCD screen and the illuminated MPC pads and power can be supplied to the unit from either USB or the included power supply. The MPX16 offers users the capability to load existing audio files onto an SD card or the unit can act as an SD card reader (when connected via USB) for drag and drop file transfer using a Mac or PC.
The main features of the Akai MPX16 Portable Sampler include:
Record and play back stereo .WAV samples using any SD card
Its simple to use and gives a lot of possibilities if you do perform live. Not so expensive and very creative. Gives me also a lot of fun and I think its good invest money. I recommend mpx , its not only a "toy".
Comes built and designed as a drum machine, but you can load your own samples onto it. This is a lengthy and awkward process, which I am still struggling with. If someone could point me towards a video showing this, that would be great, if not I may make my own, as the instructions are not clear. I also don't like the red plastic base, it looks cheap and toyish and wobbles on flat surfaces. The buttons need to be hit HARD to get a sample to play at a decent volume, minor quibbles.
