Royer presents the dBooster 2, an extremely compact and phantom-powered amp for passive ribbon and moving coil microphones, i.e. it provides all non-phantom-powered microphones with additional gain before the actual preamp. Disguised in a metal costume, it provides additional gain of either 12 or 20 decibels - with low noise and distortion thanks to Class A circuitry, of course. On the input side, the impedance is 3.6 kOhm, which is higher than usual for many preamps and thus more suitable for ribbons.
Compared to the single-channel version, the dBooster 2 also offers the function of an electronic DI box. By dispensing with a transformer and a high input impedance, the maximum possible signal integrity is ensured here. At the same time, the active amplifier circuit allows for a rich level increase, so that the signal is optimally prepared for the preamp in the audio interface or recording rack.
