The TC-Helicon Voicelive 3 at a glance
With its groundbreaking effects automation and playback engine, the Voicelive 3 Extreme multi-effects unit for vocals & guitar takes away all the worries you'd normally have before a gig. What's left is more time to focus on what's really important: Your show.
Applications and effects
In the background, Voicelive 3 Extreme takes care of impressive vocal effects and powerful guitar sounds. From the initial song idea to complex live arrangements, everything you put into your songs in terms of creativity finds its place in the Voicelive 3. The multi-effects unit is an all-in-one guitar effects solution featuring the sounds of TC Electronic's popular effects pedals, amp simulations, and flexible connectivity for use with a guitar amp and/or PA. Powerful loop functions with three separate phrases allow you to create and save entire songs "on the fly". Special innovation is the playback import with effect automation. Effects are perfectly synchronized to the playback without the need to operate foot switches. Furthermore there is a performance recorder for live audio recordings in stereo with 24 bit resolution. The output is to a USB memory stick.
Unit sounds good especially the vocal effects. It needs some getting used to using the harmony effect when singing. The guitar effects are OK, I've heard better modulation and distortion pedals, but the reverbs and delays are good. Where the unit really disappoints me, is the very poor midi implementation. First of all, midi received at the input port is not echo'ed to the midi output port. There is no system option to do this. I don't know why they didn't implement this basic feature, which exists already in most units since the 80ies... Secondly, although they say that it accepts Midi Time Clock, it doesn't handle it correctly. The display is flickering like hell, indicating that it receives the MTC well. But it seems impossible to let the tempo of the delays follow the clock. I tried it with the Strymon Mobius and the Lin6 M5, there it works well. But the TC just ignores it. I looked at every possible parameter. What a shame for a device made in 2018...

Great product. Does most of the things you dream of
It's a great tool for a singing guitarist or even in a band. I haven't explored the "electric" side yet since I will be mainly use it for my acoustic so gigs but I'm pretty sure that I will craft some good overdriven sounds for my electric guitars. It's going to take me a little while to get used to "all in one box" thing since I had 3 different devices to do what vl3x does on it's own but I'm sure it's a matter of short time. My only 2 things would be to add a bigger variety of od/ds stage and the ability to craft the voice more and not just under the "tone" setup feature. Oh, a phaser would be good too. You can take away some really unnecessary vocal features and add a phaser which is a lot more important for a guitar player. All good
Great product with excellent sound quality as you would expect from TC. Would have preferred a more solid built, feels a bit plastic but obviously keeps the price down
