Traditional Semihollow Construction
The ES-335 as a representative of the semi-resonance construction has a classically manufactured body, which is made of three-ply laminate of maple and poplar wood. The laminate construction, which has been tried and tested since the ES-175, is complemented by a solid center block made of maple, which favors the resonance transmission of the strings into the body and ensures that the ES-335 can be played at high gain settings without any problems. As a special feature of the '61 model, the 1961 ES-335 Sixties Cherry Ultra Light Aged's long neck heel glued mahogany neck features the classic slim Authentic '61 Skinny C Slim Taper neck profile of the era.
Authentic Electrical Equipment
The hand-wired circuitry of the Gibson 1961 ES-335 Sixties Cherry Ultra Light Aged is also composed of two hand-wound custom Bucker pickups, high-quality components from CTS and Switchcraft, and real oil-paper capacitors to get as close as possible to the sound and electrical layout of the prototype. Traded as replicas of the coveted PAF-Humbucker, the two hand-wound dual pickups offer a moderate output that can handle anything from expressive cleans to steamy crunch tones.
Classic Hardware and Nitro Lacquer with Murphy Aging
For the right look and feel of an unmistakable replica of the '61 ES-335 model in contemporary Sixties Cherry, the entire know-how of the Murphy Lab, founded by Tom Murphy, comes into play. The aging experts have thoroughly examined numerous surviving models of the golden Gibson era in order to be able to reproduce the paint texture, hardware aging and typical playing traces of old originals as faithfully as never before. The result is a successful Ultra Light Aged level aging process that represents the condition of an instrument that has been tremendously well cared for over the decades, with minimal nitro lacquer cracking and light hardware aging.
