Set of Neumann MA 1 measuring microphone & 2 KH 80 monitors
MA 1 Measuring microphone
2 KH 80 DSP loudspeakers
Perfect for setting up a frequency-corrected loudspeaker system
Direct control of the KH 80 DSP through the software
DSP preset is stored in the speakers; after calibrate operation without computer possible
Compatible with all analog and digital Neumann loudspeakers (loudspeaker configuration is queried by the software during calibrate)
Stereo subwoofer setups possible
Setup with free Neumann Automatic Monitor Alignment software
Makes it possible to assemble a modern high-end system for recording studios and hi-fi enthusiasts
With the KH 750, the MA 1 system is compatible with all analog Neumann speakers.
State-of-the-art technology for optimally adapted sound
With Neuman's MA 1 calibration system you get a stationary loudspeaker system with perfectly optimised frequency, phase and impulse response according to scientific criteria. Due to its independence from a computer, such a system is also of interest to discerning hi-fi connoisseurs and is even a fairly low-priced alternative to high-end systems in the hi-fi sector.
Set-up effort that pays off.
For correct operation of the Neumann Monitor Alignment Kit 2, in addition to the KH 80 DSPs, a LAN cable is required for each DSP device for control purposes, as well as 2 XLR cables or 2 75Ohm BNC cables for connecting the loudspeakers. To set up the system, you will also require 1 additional XLR cable for the measuring microphone during the calibration process. Your DSP-controlled Neumann devices are connected to your computer, if necessary by means of a network switch, and an appropriate number of LAN cables. The LAN network is only required for the calibration process; after calibrate, the EQ and delay curves are stored in the DSPs and the network can be disconnected again.
Neumann's software guides the user through an automated sequence of calibration steps.
Different setups - one software
The MA-1 measurement microphone is operated for calibration at the microphone input with 48V phantom power ofthe same audio interface to which the loudspeakers are connected. If the system is to be set up using the digital input on the subwoofer/speaker, a digital audio output is also required on the interface. However, the use of the digital inputs is only supported with the LAN-capable KH 80 DSP. The digital inputs of KH 120 D / KH 310 D drive a DSP module, which is not required for the otherwise analog speakers in combination with the Monitor Alignment Kit. In this case, use the analog XLR connectors.
Finally, the generated curve is displayed and can be adjusted.
All in all, there are several possibilities forthe connection from the interface to the box(es):
AES/EBU: The digital output in XLR format requires a line with 110Ohm impedance, but the unbalanced AES3 input with BNC socket at the box requires a signal with 75Ohm source impedance. Strictly speaking, an impedance converter must be connected in between.* This method achieves the best results. Experience has shown, however, that an adapter from XLR to BNC is sufficient.
S/PDIF: The specifications of the S/PDIF standard are included in the AES3 standard. So an S/PDIF output can be connected to the BNC input with a simple plug-in adapter or adapter cable and will be recognized by the DSP without any problems.
Analog: It is of course equally possible to drive the DSP via the analog XLR input and at the same time benefit from the advantages of speaker correction with the MA-1. In this case, however, you have to accept an additional conversion step (analog input to DSP).
If the first KH 80 DSP is controlled digitally, the second one is also connected with a conventional BNC cable with 75Ohm impedance (word clock cable).
Detailed documentation and the required, free Neumann Automatic Monitor Alignment software are available in the Neumann download area.
Please be sure to switch off the direct monitoring function on the interface during the calibration process; otherwise you risk damaging your loudspeakers by creating a feedback loop! To do this, turn the source selector from Input to DAW, if necessary.
This task can also be performed by a suitable resistor network (T-element).
