Founded in 1965 in Massachusetts, USA, Bose used many small full-range speakers in combination with active frequency correction in its Model 901 loudspeaker series as early as the early seventies, instead of the usual 2 or 3-way concepts. The specially developed high-performance drivers together have a significantly larger diaphragm area, with a lower moving mass and greater load capacity than any conventional loudspeaker arrangement. This enabled an extremely impulsive reproduction with an enormous bass foundation and exceptional three-dimensionality. In the modern personal PA systems that Bose offers today, the basic concept of using many small drivers in combination with active equalization has been retained. The Bose engineers created the first individual PA systems of their kind, the Vertical Line Arrays in Spatial Dispersion arrangement, with the wirelessly installable elements of their Vertical Line, that lead this market segment thanks to their flexibility, ease of use and compact transportability.
The L1 Compact Portable Line Array System is very compact and lightweight. All components are assembled in one minute using a wireless plug-in system. Placed behind or next to the performers, the system combines the task of PA and monitor system in a slim column housing. Its shape and the loudspeakers arranged at special angles to each other ensure even sound distribution on the stage and in the auditorium.
Depending on the space available and the number of spectators, the vertical speaker column can be used directly in the Compact Power Stand or extended to a height of almost 200 cm using extensions. This always ensures optimum room radiation, whether placed on a table in a small circle or as a column structure in front of an audience in smaller venues. With a total weight of just 13.3 kg, the L1 Compact Portable Line Array is the smallest and easiest to use Bose L1 system.
The Compact Power Stand of the L1 system contains not only the subwoofer and all power amplifiers, but also a small mixing console with four inputs and two outputs. Channel 1 has bass and treble control and is automatically sound optimized for a dynamic microphone by the ToneMatch system. Up to 3 sources can be connected to channel 2. In addition to the RCA stereo input and a 3.5 mm jack input, there is a balanced 6.3 mm jack input which can be switched between line mode and ToneMatch mode specially optimized for acoustic guitars. A balanced line output (6.35 mm) and an RCA stereo output for controlling other systems are located on the rear panel. The L1 Compact System can be upgraded with the optional T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine, a digital multi-channel mixing console. Over 100 proprietary ToneMatch presets for instruments and microphones, Bose zEQ, storable scenes and a range of studio-quality effects are now available.
With Spatial Dispersion speaker technology, six small drivers with precise alignment are arranged in a slim, vertical enclosure. This achieves a horizontal sound distribution of almost 180 degrees. Your fellow musicians will hear you on stage just as well as the audience in the room.
The system consists of heavy-duty, lightweight, interlocking components for easy transport, and minimal set-up and dismantling times. With the Compact Power Stand in the protective cover and the carrying bag with the extensions, you have the system "under control". The entire set (with speakers and extensions) weighs just 13.3 kg.
