Overdrive effect pedal with asymmetrical clipping
The Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive has been part of the Japanese effects manufacturer's permanent line-up since 1981 and has helped shape countless legendary guitar sounds ever since. The analog circuitry with its characteristic asymmetrical clipping can be precisely adjusted via the familiar knob layout for Drive, Tone and Level, while the typical compact pedal format finds its place on every pedalboard.
Analog Circuitry
The SD-1 Super Overdrive's analog circuitry creates distortion through asymmetrical clipping, whose harmonic overtones are distinctly reminiscent of an overdriven tube amp. Located in the medium gain range, the Boss Super Drive feels most comfortable in front of a clean or crunching amp, where it delivers creamy blues and rock sounds. The SD-1 from Boss is also ideal for stacking with other boosters or overdrives.
One of the most underrated overdrive pedals you can find! It sounds like a tubescreamer and it acts great as an overdrive and a boost as well. I use it with my Tele mainly as a boost, with the volume way up and the gain very low. I also use it with a LP and stack it with an OCD. Great for that mid-hump volume boost to cut through the mix for a solo!!
I have 3 distortion pedals on my pedal board and this is one of it. Good for blues solos and crunchy riffing. When i am suing this i just add another distorion to boost my solos in gig and its sounds very sweet. If you are experimenting on your sounds you must try this one .
Have owned one of these pedals for 4 years and find it very pleasing the sound and the sturdy construction is great as usual with Boss effects! One of the best Overdrives pedals Ive used and quite affordable would be great for anyone looking too beef up your sound! Would highly recommend!
