Ken Taylor has been playing basses made by the cult company Sandberg in Braunschweig since he joined the Peter Maffay Band as a permanent member in 1993. With the Sandberg Basic Ken Taylor 4 RW Virgin White Highgloss, they tailored a signature electric bass to his liking. As a workhorse reduced to the essentials, this four-stringer with classic wood combination, two power humbuckers and active electronics focuses on versatile sounds and excellent playability.
For the construction of his signature bass, Ken Taylor wanted classic woods. Accordingly, alder is used for the body of the Sandberg Basic Ken Taylor, while the six-bolt neck is made of maple and mahogany and has a rosewood fingerboard. This combination promises a well-balanced basic sound with punchy attack and healthy sustain that accurately portrays every note played. On the slim neck with its comfortable "C" profile, every groove comes easily from the fingers.
The electric sound conversion of the Sandberg Basic Ken Taylor 4 is done by two Sandberg Powerhumbuckers. These powerful pickups convince with their punchy sound, whose smooth articulation and fat low end precisely represent every note played and make it pleasantly perceptible in the pit of the stomach. Via the split switch, one coil of the humbuckers can be deactivated, delivering brilliant single-coil sounds. In addition, there is an active 3-band EQ that can be used to precisely adjust the sound in bass, midrange and treble.
Ken Taylor was born in London in 1952 as the son of Jamaican emigrants and came into contact with music at a young age. In his youth, Taylor first played rhythm guitar in a Caribbean calypso band before discovering the electric bass and becoming a big fan of the emerging rock music thanks to Jimi Hendrix. Through tireless practice, Ken Taylor developed his virtuoso style that always served the band and established him as a reliable sideman in the international studio scene. His bass can be heard on recordings by John Mayall, Bruce Springsteen, Brian May, the Scorpions and the Rödelheim Hartreim Projekt, among others. In 1993, Taylor joined the Peter Maffay Band, with whom he played on all tours and recordings as a permanent member.
