Save cable runs without signal loss
The Cranborne N8 is an analog signal distributor that uses Cranborne Audio 's C.A.S.T. system to convert network cables (Cat 5e, Cat 6 or Cat 7) into 4-channel analog audio cables and breakout boxes that can be routed in the studio or on stage. With 4 dedicated C.A.S.T. ports, the N8 allows you to connect up to 4 Cranborne Audio breakout boxes simultaneously for 16-channel audio routing with any audio interface, mixer or audio installation. Place the N8 in your control room and connect it directly to your audio interface I/O via DB25. The N8 then transfers the audio interface's analog I/O into 4 discrete C.A.S.T. connections that can be distributed to C.A.S.T. breakout boxes like the N22 and N22H in your studio or on stage.
Why transmit analog audio signals over Cat cables?
Network cables are perfect for transmitting analog audio signals. They are manufactured to a strict and high standard to reliably transmit data across buildings. Network cables transmit huge amounts of data at very high bandwidths (1000 MHz on Cat 7, which is equivalent to 1,000,000,000 Hz), so transmitting audio signals at 20Hz to 20kHz is comparatively easy and can be done with minimal crosstalk and no signal degradation . In addition, Lan cables are manufactured in incredibly high quantities. This makes them more affordable than XLR cables, which are comparatively manufactured in much smaller quantities. This means that a 10m Cat 7 cable (carrying 4 channels of audio) can be purchased from any retailer for a fraction of the price of a single XLR cable.
