Noise generator from Doepfer

With the A-117-2 module, Doepfer offers a digital, voltage-controlled noise generator.

The module generates a random sequence of square-wave signals, the frequency of which can be adjusted from occasional "clicks" to noise. The noise color is clearly different from that of analog noise. In the lower frequency ranges, the A-117-2 produces atonal, noisy sounds that are reminiscent of bitcrush and are particularly convincing in experimental patches.

If you play the module with a sequencer and send the digital noise directly into a VCA that is modulated with an envelope, the techno/industrial faction will also be happy. The frequency of the internal clock oscillator is manually adjustable in the range from 50Hz to 40kHz and can also be controlled via a CV input with its own attenuator. The internal clock can be replaced by an external one, e.g. an oscillator, high-speed VCO, LFO or a Midi-Clock. There are two outputs for the signal output: zero-balanced (upper noise socket) and a purely positive output (lower noise socket). The balanced signal is primarily suitable for audio applications, while the positive signal is ideal for control tasks such as random envelope triggering, random clock signal or random switching functions.
