The Doepfer A-156 QNT Eurorack Quantizer Module is a Dual Control Voltage Quantizer. Quantizers convert a continuous control voltage (within the range of 0-10V) into a stepped output voltage (in the same voltage range), meaning the quantization is controllable within that range. Ordinarily 1/12V steps are used to produce steps in semitones.
Quantizer 2 on the A-156 has some more sophisticated quantizing modes available. Switches select between Major and Minor scales, Major and Minor chords, fundamental + 5th & the addition of 6th or 7th intervals when chords are selected. The only voltages appearing at the CV output are those that comply with the selection sequence.
Quantizer 1 is always set to work in the semitone mode.
The main features of the Doepfer A-156 QNT Eurorack Quantizer Module include:
this module is so simple to use, yet it brings so much excitement and much better sequencing in my case!!! Now I can shift between minor & major on the fly to create quick changes, it automatically quantizes notes on the fly, making the whole creative experience much more pleasing to listen to!
I managed to burn this unit out within a few seconds. My fault entirely. The unit came with a ribbon cable already connected. In my hurry to install, I removed that cable then connected it to the ribbon cable already installed in my case. Unfortunately the 10 pin header on the back of the module does not have a plastic shroud that only allows you to insert the connector the right way. It was 50 :50 and I got it wrong. I could not see any indication on the circuit board highlighting where the 12v pins lie.
I will buy a replacement and pay attention to the red stripe on the ribbon that is supplied by Doepher. I should have downloaded the manual and that may have provided some guidance.
