Battering Ram from Shakmat Modular is a drum module specializing in bass drums with a wide sound palette. Thanks to its wide range of parameters, the module produces bass drums that cover just about everything from soft, round 808-style kicks to 909-Umtz bunker techno and thunderdome. The oscillator has a frequency range of three to five octaves, which is even sufficient for the high-pitched kicks. The decay phase is long enough and the module can be used for basslines within the scope of its possibilities. The highlight are the two distortion circuits; the first is a two-stage wavefolder that produces harmonic distortion and slight compression, the second packs far more gain and tends towards clipping distortion. The velocity input enables dynamic triggering; depending on the control voltage, the intense accentuations familiar from old TR drum computers can be achieved here. The main parameters Drive, Decay, Click and Pitch are equipped with CV inputs, allowing these parameters to be modulated. Simply add a clock-synchronized LFO with a sawtooth waveform to Pitch and you can create walking bass drums. The switchable high-pass filter limits the frequency range down to 30 Hertz so that Mix doesn't lose too much dynamic range. A total of 16 memory locations offer total recall for the module's favourite sounds.
