The SonicwareLIVEN Texture Lab is a granular processor with synthesizer and effects modes. The granular sound generation primarily uses common sampling techniques, but is able to decompose, resynthesize and re-transform the recorded audio material into smallest audio particles. In synthesizer mode, you have access to one of 32 samples, each of which can be up to 6 seconds long at a sample rate of 16 bit / 32 kHz in mono. Thanks to the internal resampling function, you can save new samples that result from changing the synth parameters. In addition, the Synthesizer Mode can be played either four voices polyphonic, mono or Legato; the number of manipulable grains depends on the Voice Mode. In Effect Mode, the Texture Lab becomes an unusual tool for sound processing, which processes the stereo signal from the audio channel in real time using the possibilities of granular synthesis. Regardless of the selected mode, there is an attack/release envelope for modulating the volume and a digital multimode filter with lowpass, Bandpass and Highpass modes. At the end of the signal path is the surprisingly good sounding reverb effect with six reverb variations including shimmer reverb. Here at the latest the LIVEN Texture Lab recommends itself as a creative tool for experimental sound collages with an ambient character. The built-in speaker and alternative battery operation (6x AA batteries) is ideal for those who want to make music anywhere. For connection with other equipment there are MIDI inputs and outputs as well as analogue sync in & out to synchronize the LIVEN Texture Lab with Korg Volca or Teenage Pocket Operators.
Sequencer & Arpeggiator
The single-track sequencer is programmable live or stepwise in TR grid and has a storage capacity of 128 patterns, each of which can be up to 128 steps long. Recording parameter locks adds life and variety to the patterns. The synthesized sounds are chromatically playable via the 27 mini keys, which is a great gain musically. The shuffle (swing) parameter adds more groove and funkyness to the sequences. Various live effects in the sequencer bring variations of the current pattern at the touch of a button without having to reprogram anything. Optionally to the sequencer, an arpeggiator with different playback patterns can be included in the live play at any time.
