When buying guitars online it really is a gamble. Fortunately Yamaha acoustic guitars have never disappointed me. The APXII is no exception. I bought this guitar to replace an old Takamine concert-size Jasmine electro acoustic guitar. The Yamaha has the same slim, comfortable neck. The built-in tuner is very convenient although the guitar stays in tune quite well so I don´t have to use it that much. The electronics are solid and I have had no issues with them. I have recorded some stuff with an up-close mic, a condenser back a bit and a direct line out. I am very pleased with the results. I have tried it with several amps and it sounds as good as can be expected given the quality of the amps. It has a very clear and balanced tone. I bought the feedback plug for the soundhole which makes it much easier to play through an amp at higher volumes without getting a bunch of feedback.
The machine heads feel smooth and the general finish of the guitar is great for the price. It came pretty much ready to play. The setup seems fine to me.
I took a long time to decide to buy this guitar because I own more than a dozen guitars already and I simply don´t have the space for something I´m not going to use. The APXII instantly became my go-to guitar. I don´t need a lot of volume when I´m playing at home and the thinner body makes it much more comfortable to wrap your body around. I have back issues and so for me this is important. For the money I really don´t think you can find a better guitar.
