The production series of the year 1959 combined Gibson all the improvements applied since the first Les Paul electric guitar, from the flexibly adjustable Gibson ABR Tune-o-Matic bridge and the one developed Humbucker by Seth Lover to the incomparable ' Double Carve' ceiling shaping. As part of the True Historic series, he Gibson Custom Shop set off on an unprecedented search for the original production steps of the 59s in order to enliven the classic as authentically as possible.
For the True Historic series, he Gibson Custom Shop relies on the findings collected within the framework of the Collector's Choice models and has all components of the instrument - from Kunststoff the 'poker chip' to the condition of the paint - analysed and recreated at the molecular level. Accordingly, the poker chip and M69 pickup rings are Pickguard not only historically accurate, but also reflect the aging process of the originals over time.
Another new feature of the True Historic models is the original Double carving of the ceiling in the form of manual finishing for the authentic ceiling structure. Wet sanding was introduced as a further classic production step. This means that during the application of the nitrocellulose finish a wet intermediate sanding is carried out and the finish has the classic feeling of well maintained originals.
The distinctive neck profile is 1959 Les Paul characterized by the blend of the agile play feel of thinner necks with sufficient strength for articulative bendings. For this purpose, some well preserved 59s from the collections of well-known Gibson collectors were measured in terms of neck strength, shaping and material and reproduced with the classic profile. The key to success here is the minimum thickness of 0.9 inches on the 1st fret and one inch of wood behind the 12th fret.
Custom Bucker pickups wrapped according to the proven P.A.F. recipe provide the right sounds. These hand-wound Humbucker with copper wire in AWG42 wire gauge feature Alnico III magnets and, like the Original two bobbins wound in slightly different ways, also have a different winding.
