Korg nanoKEY Fold WH at a glance

With the nanoKEY Fold, Korg shows just how compact and portable a USB/MIDI master keyboard can be. Packed with features that can be used in the DAW and in combination with a synthesizer, when folded it is hardly bigger than two smartphones lying on top of each other. This is made possible by a membrane keyboard with 25 keys instead of conventional keys. The focus is clearly on "always at hand" when you want to record something on your laptop or tablet. Pitchbend and modulation wheel are designed as ribbon controllers, both of which can be assigned to any CCs and scales, which can then be played with a swipe. The keyboard itself is transposable in the range of +/- 4 octaves and even has a sustain button that mimics the familiar effect of a sustain pedal.

A small miracle of features

Apart from its size, the nanoKEY Fold has a few special features that give it another unique selling point. You can choose between two scale modes: In standard mode, LEDs that light up red mark the keys that belong to the currently selected scale. In Easy Scale mode, on the other hand, only the notes that occur in the selected scale are output, regardless of which key is currently pressed. In Chord mode, complete chords can be played using a single key. There is also a programmable arpeggiator with 15 rhythm patterns. Other features include a split function, which allows the left half of the keyboard to play chords or arpeggios while a matching melody is played on the right half. 15 memory locations are available in the device to make it easy to manage all settings. The most convenient way to make all settings is with the free KORG KONTROL EDITOR software for PC and Mac. Thanks to the MIDI output, which is provided via the supplied TRS adapter, the nanoKEY Fold can also be used to play a MIDI expander.
