The Dave Smith Instruments Prophet P12 is a polyphonic analogue synthesizer featuring the best of the Prophet and PolyEvolver keyboards.
The Prophet 12 has 12 voices of polyphony, each featuring four oscillators and a sub-oscillator, an analogue hi and low-pass resonant filter and an analogue Voltage Controlled Amplifier. There is also a tuned feedback and a four-tap delay per voice to further expand the sonic capabilities. Add to this four LFO’s and 4 envelopes per voice and you have a truly powerful instrument capable of designing any sound you could wish for. The P12 employs a knob per function interface meaning that everything is clearly laid out at your fingertips without having to dive through menus to operate.
Players have further sound sculpting options such as a choice between frequency modulation and amplitude modulation, a choice of classic wave shapes such as sawtooth and square wave as well as functions to finely tune the shape modulation and pulse width. The signal then feeds into the character section which lets you add Dave Smith’s proprietary Hack, Girth, Decimation, Air and Drive. All parameter changes are visually fed back through the clear LCD display, making it simple to keep track of your choices and settings
The Prophet 12 performance enhancement controls go beyond the standard pitch bend and modulation wheels, as the synthesizer also includes two programmable pressure and position-sensitive touch sliders as found on the Dave Smith Tempest, making the P12 an articulate instrument capable of subtle dynamic and expressive operation. Modulation routings are almost everywhere and the LFO’s can be synced to the full featured arpeggiator function.
The connections on the rear of the synth include a headphone socket, main stereo outputs as well as a secondary set of stereo outputs, MIDI I/O and Thru, two controller pedals, a sustain pedal as well as a USB connection.
