The Epiphone Allen Woody RumbleKat Wine Red was developed in collaboration with the bassist of the Allman Brothers Band, who died in 2000, and accordingly turns out to be an ingenious short-scale electric bass with a rich southern rock sound. Here the short scale length and the mahogany bodywith resonance chambers and laminated maple top shape the sound with a fat low-end and an airy timbre, whereas the set mahogany neck in the "Slim Taper C" neck profile offers excellent playability. Positioned in neck and middle position, Epiphone NYT mini humbuckers provide a powerful bass sound whose lively dynamics expressively translate every groove. A savoir : je suis un simple débutant à la basse ; la guitare a été achetée pour le plaisir pas pour un projet précis. Au déballage : pas de défaut apparent (vernis, sillet, filet, frètes etc.). Pour pinailler un peu… la touche est peut-être un peu sèche à mon goût et le sillet est (je crois) en synthétique et non en os. Mais excellente finition pour le prix. Le chevalet à 3 points demande à être maitrisé pour un bon réglage. Mais j’ai l’intention de porter la basse chez mon luthier pour un réglage professionnel : action plus basse et cordes à filet plat. Le réglage neutre de l’action et les cordes par défaut sont bons et permettent de s’amuser directement après le déballage. Accordage facile et qui tient. Le son avec les cordes d’origine est chaud un peu plus profond qu’une P basse, et avec touche boisée très présente. La guitare me semble faite pour le blues, le rock, le jazz et l’alternatif. Pas de slap ou tap mais excellent au médiator.
