Construction and hardware
The Fender PM 180E mandolin produces a powerful and bright sound thanks to its teardrop-shaped A-style construction, with a long-lasting decay in the overtones. The spruce top is traditionally equipped with F-shaped sound holes, the lower one of which is half-covered with a black pickguard. Mahogany back and sides add a pleasant warm note to the sound, making the instrument excellent for light strumming and expressive Pickings. The maple neck features a 'V' profile, giving the player optimal access to all 21 frets set into a walnut fingerboard. For decoration and orientation, the fretboard is marked with filigree snowflake inlays, which are perfectly visually matched to the buttons of the open chrome tuners. The adjustable walnut bridge is precisely matched to the finely notched 28.4 mm bone nut, so the mandolin intonates cleanly over its full-scale length of 354 mm. For use on stage, the PM 180E is equipped with a Fishman pickup system that authentically transmits the acoustic sound to the amplifier. The instrument is rounded off by a noble Aged Cognac Burst varnish with matte finish. The scope of delivery includes a robust bag.
