For those who like to play and practice electric guitars but don't always want to carry or wire giant amps Fluid Audio offers a compact amp version: The Strum Buddy. Thanks to its suction cup, it can be easily applied to the guitar and off you go. It doesn't need much space or meters of wiring. Even the use of batteries is obsolete! The 6-watt amp wonder charges directly via USB and lasts up to 3.5 hours - perfect for anyone who just wants to sit on the couch and get started. Freedom of movement and fun guaranteed! Practically, there are even guitar effects like overdrive, chorus and reverb on board, so jamming alone or with other musicians is even more flexible.
I am a member of a Ukulele group of 20 members. Three of us now have a Strum Buddy which we can use on our electro Ukulele's. The benefits are many. Very easy amplification either at home or in the group practice room. Ideal for use at gigs indoors or outdoors. Very useful for solo melody playing and saves time and effort setting up amplifiers. Some of our gigs are in Care Homes and Open Garden events. The Strum Buddy makes such a difference at these events and certainly adds another dimension to our overall sound.
I was intrigued by this little suction amp. It turns out it is more suitable for electric guitars than for electro-acoustics. I wanted to see if I could add some reverb, or crunch, to my resonator guitar. But the pick up of that guitar is probably a bit too quiet. With the volume at the maximum and "crunch" selected I can barely hear a bit of crunch. So I tried it with my other acoustic guitars: one has no volume control, and it immediately created some feedback loop when I tried to use it. The other has a volume control so that was better, but the sound of the guitar really dominate whatever comes out of this amp. I assume it could be great for electrics though - hence my mixed notation. FWIW: I can't say anything about the battery life: I haven't used it long enough.
