The Midas M32C Digital Rack Mixer is a 40-input, 25-bus, high-performance mixing core for live and installed sound applications.
The M32C takes the brain of the flagship M32 Digital Mixing Console and packs it into a tight aluminium steel 1u format.
The M32C can be combined with any of the MIDAS DL16 or DL32 stage boxes to effortlessly run sound with high I/O counts in multiple remote locations. The Dual AES 50 networking CAT5 connectors allow for up to a total of 96 remote inputs and 48 output channels to be controlled by the M32C. This system enables all of these to be controlled concurrently from various locations and instances via the free remote control software applications – M32-EDIT, M32-MIX, M32-Q. Above all else, however, the M32 has been designed to put the mighty power of digital solely in the users hands – with nothing left out.
The M32 integrates advanced features such as integrated personal monitor mixing and true high-speed digital audio networking as standard features.
The M32C has 96 kHz capable open architecture which ensures that it is future-proof with industry leading 192 kHz 24-bit ADC and DAC converters that provide outstanding state-of-the-art performance.
The M32C’s ULTRANET bus allows streaming up to 16 channels of pristine digital audio to a wide array of TURBOSOUND iQ speakers – all on a single CAT5 cable, along with control data to set sound presets remotely.
The AES50 simultaneously provides high channel counts, extremely low and deterministic latencies, accurate phase-aligned networked clock distribution, error detection, network redundancy, with simple easy-to-use formatting designed to exceed the needs of the professional entertainment industry. This unique combination also benefits both live and studio recording applications, as well as post-production, broadcasting and audio routing infrastructure.
The MIDAS M32C offers an extensive landscape of on board effects, rendering outboard processing racks redundant. The Virtual FX rack features 8 true stereo, studio-grade effects engines, each assignable to any input group or output mix bus’. These high-end effects modules include a wide range of reverbs, delays, EQ’s, dynamics and a whole lot more. Each of these effects algorithms has been completely reimagined and re-designed to produce a stunning performance every time. Custom-designed and physically modelled on some of the most sought-after processors, all effects run inside the low-latency environment of the M32C’s mix engine. This ensures flawless performance, flexible routing and a final end to problems regarding cable faults. Forever!
The AES50 network ports feature the KLARK TEKNIK superMAC technology and produce an ultra-low latency which is compatible with in-ear monitoring. This also allows up to 100 metres of networking capability via a CAT5 cable (not included). These dual AES50 ports enable the user to cascade up to three DL16 units with no need for a an external router or merger.
When paired with the DL16 I/O and the POWERPLAY P-16, the M32C becomes the nucleus of an ultra-flexible studio control room set up. The included 32 x 32 KLARK TEKNIK DN32-USB audio interface, with 8 stereo effects engines, zero-latency monitoring (independent from DAW) and the 100% total recall, delvers the right tools you will need to handle any project you want.
The DN32-ADAT Expansion card allows the user to digitally integrate the M32C with any piece of audio equipment that features ADAT I/O. This includes stand-alone recorders, digital audio workstations and other digital mixers and processors. This DN32-ADAT card provides 32-channels of ADAT inputs and outputs on its fibre-optic Toslink connectors. The card itself features 24-bit signal transmission and operates on both 441. kHz and 48 kHz sample rates, maintaining any signal integrity that is fed through it. The DN32-ADAT card also features a BNC world-clock in/out capability allowing the user to synch up with an external clock, or provide the clock signal for other devices. External clock synchronization is possible through the BNC connectors or through any of the 4 Toslink ports.
The DN32-MADI expansion card brings even more I/O options to the M32C by instantly enabling it for MADI networking. The MADI or AES10 protocol is quickly becoming and industry standard in many broadcast applications, providing optical duplex SC-plugs (IEC874-19) to connect with fibre-optic MADI devices, with multimode fibre-optic cable lengths of up to 2km supported. The DN-MADI card is the perfect solution for integrating the M32C into current installations using the MADI protocol.
The M32 EDIT function gives the user the possibility of controlling the M32C remotely via a computer. Move a fader on the PC and it moves on the M32C, press a button on the computer, the button toggles on the M32C. This feature is extremely useful for side of stage monitor control, individual control multiple installed M32C’s, as well as multiple remote control stations of the same M32C. The M32C EDIT function also allows the creation of scenarios on a PC beforehand as to minimise the time spend before sound checks.
Finally, thanks to the new M32C MIX app for iPad, front of house becomes just about wherever you and your iPad are. Just simply plug in via a wireless router via Ethernet cable to the M32C and wirelessly connect up to 10 iPad devices - especially handy for making custom monitor mixes. This M32 MIX App lets the user control all 32 mic inputs, 8 Aux inputs and 16 buses, plus the FX stereo returns and the Matrix, Main and DCA levels. Compatible with Android (2.2 or higher) mobile devices, each artist can run their own M32-Q Android App to adjust and tweak their personal IEM or wedge monitor mix with an interface similar to the iPhone App.
Fantastic value in a digital mixer. Sound rated 3 out of 5 because audio quality is mostly dependent on which external preamps/A/D/A converters are used.
