A hybrid of the C-100 & C-800
With the C-80, Sony introduces a unidirectional condenser microphone (cardioid) that is ideal for recording vocals, instruments and podcasts. In developing the C-80, Sony engineers were able to draw on their extensive experience in microphone design and incorporate crucial technologies from the popular C-800 and C-100 microphones into the new model. With the microphone capsule of the C-100 and the housing design of the C-800, the C-80 offers a balanced and clear sound as well as a high-quality and robust finish.
Why the double diaphragm and the two-piece housing structure?
The dual-diaphragm capsule mitigates the proximity effect when singers, speakers or other sound sources are positioned very close to the microphone, resulting in an overemphasis in the bass range. Thus, the dual-diaphragm capsule enables stable recording without sound distortion. In addition, as with the C-800g and C-100 models, the "Noise Elimination Construction" prevents acoustic vibrations from reaching the diaphragm, thus ensuring alow-noise and clear sound.
