The JHS Pedals Little Black Amp Box is looped into the serial effects path of a guitar amplifier and can regulate the signal fed to the power amplifier. Accordingly, the preamplifier of the amplifier can be pushed properly without the volume getting too high.

I wanted a low cost attenuator to enable me to crank my tube amp but keep it at bedroom levels in the evening as have two young children. This does exactly that, and at a very attractive price. I've not noticed any deterioration to the tone either, so it's perfect for what I'm using it for.
I have no direct experience with aftermarket attenuators, so can't really compare this device to any. However, it's doing an admirable job of taming my Marshall SV20C at the moment. If anything, it's been of huge help in eliminating that high end squeal that I observed when running the amp at full throttle.
Have struggled to achieve the right sound from my overpowered Marshall amp. Have spent £££s on effects, but to no avail. THEN, stumbled on this little baby. So so cheap !! Placed last in line within the amp effects loop and .... BINGO !! Everything I wanted. The over driven Marshall amp is (now) amazing, and sounds brilliant,... with no more worries about complaints from the moaning neighbours. GO GET ONE - NOW !
