The body of the 5-string bass is made of light, carefully selected hardwood, while the five-string neck is made of sturdy roasted maple and has a rosewood fingerboard. High playability is also ensured by the revised body contours, which allow the Bass to rest comfortably against the body, and the sculpted neck joint, which, in conjunction with the comfortable "C" neck profile, makes all 22 stainless steel frets easily accessible.

Equipped with two Music Man Standard neodymium humbucker pickups, the StingRay 5 Special MN Black proves to be a true all-rounder that can be used to lay down the right groove for almost any style of music. Thanks to the powerful magnetic material, the pickups deliver a high-output, finely resolved tone that also reproduces the low B-string with a crisp response and optimum tone definition. The pickups, or rather their individual coils, can be connected in different combinations via the 5-way blade switch, so that a wide range of characterful tones is available. To further tune the sound, a 3-band tone control operated with 18 volts is also on board, which impresses with a musical tuning of all frequency bands and an enormous headroom.
