The PRS Special Semi-Hollow Purple Iris is a particularly versatile guitar with typical PRS appointments and the right sound for almost any genre.
The glued "Pattern" mahogany neck gives the Special Semi-Hollow first-class playing characteristics.
Resonance-friendly guitar in typical PRS style
The design of the Special Semi-Hollow is clearly based on the legendary Custom 22 and promises a particularly resonant sound thanks to its special construction, without compromising on playability. The mahogany body with generous resonance chambers and the curly maple top with F-hole color the sound with a woody-acoustic timbre. The pleasantly rounded and powerful "pattern" profile of the set mahogany neck also sits comfortably in the hand, so that any playing technique can be implemented with ease on the 22-fret rosewood fingerboard. The coveted PRS Birds are naturally used to mark the positions.
Two PRS 58/15 LT humbuckers and the narrowfield pickup in the middle position, together with the flexible circuitry, deliver a rich sound.
Triple humbucker setup and flexible circuitry
To elicit a particularly flexible sound spectrum between glassy cleans and juicy Overdrive from the guitar amplifier, PRS equips the Special Semi-Hollow with a particularly flexible pickup setup consisting of three in-house humbuckers. In the neck and bridge positions, PRS 58/15 LT humbuckers with moderate Output provide authentic Vintage timbres that not only offer the optimum balance of warmth and airy dynamics, but also skillfully capture the timbre of the semi-acoustic construction. In the middle position, on the other hand, the innovative Narrowfield humbucker promises bell-like tones with a clear single coil character without any annoying background noise. The flexible circuit with volume and tone controls, a 5-way switch for pickup selection and two mini-switches for individual splitting of the 58/15 LT humbucker calls up a wide range of sound nuances.
PRS Phase III Locking Tuners with large wings guarantee precise and stable tuning of the Special Semi-Hollow.
PRS Hardware
Of course, Paul Reed Smith completes the Special Semi-Hollow Purple Iris with the well-known PRS hardware, which also more than fulfills professional demands for touring and Studio. The PRS Gen III tremolo on the body not only impresses with its buttery smooth handling for shimmering vibrato embellishments, but also with extensive adjustment options for intonation and string action. The rounded surfaces of the system also provide a comfortable rest for the heel of the hand when using palm mutes or similar playing techniques. On the headstock, PRS Phase III Locking tuners also ensure precise and robust tuning, even when frequently reaching for the vibrato lever.
