The Pioneer RM-05 Active Coaxial Monitor Speaker Single is packed with professional audio technology that's been developed for the use in, you guessed it, professional studios. They deliver a high SPL and a completely neutral sound with clear separation across the frequencies.
The RM-05 makes use of a coaxial driver unit, which is a combined tweeter and woofer. The use of this ensures that audio from the tweeter and woofer comes from the same place, making for a more accurate sound. The 5-inch aramid fibre woofer and front-loaded bass reflex system with grooved ducts ensure a transparent, clean bass. While the 1.5-inch aluminium hard dome tweeter has been optimised to deliver rousing high frequencies of up to 50 kHz. A newly developed waveguide minimises interference between these two drivers.
These drivers are powered by custom-designed Class AB bi-amps. The use of this ensures a balance across the frequencies, and the use of an exclusive toroidal transformer power source makes for excellent S/N ratio and no distortion. A 3-band EQ allows you to tailor the speakers sound, or have the option to audition tracks for certain scenarios. The EQ has four pre-sets for each band (low/mid/high).
Monitor speakers suffer from something called standing waves, something that produces a muffled response in the low to mid ranges. The way Pioneer have dealt with this is by placing an acoustic tube in the cabinet, absorbing the standing waves. This ensures that the low to mid frequencies are truly reproduced.
The housing of the RM-05 is made from die-cast aluminium, which has very rigid properties. Curved contours eliminate resonance and work with the acoustic tube to ensure the quality of the low to mid ranges.
