With the 3rd Dimension BBD-320 Klark Teknik offers an exact reproduction of the legendary Chorus unit Dimension D from Roland in a 2U rack case. In addition to an authentic reproduction of the original circuit with only analogue signal routing, great importance was attached to the cult design and controls of the original.
For example, the 3rd Dimension BBD-320 offers 4 preset switches, from 1 to 4 representing an increase in depth, width and intensity of the chorus effect. As with the original, several switches can be pressed for an even more striking effect.
The 3rd Dimension BBD-320 provides the sought-after sounds and subtle sound enhancements that have been used on vocals, keyboards, guitar and bass since 1979 at a sensational price. Bass guitars can be made subtly wider and synthesizers can be enriched, vocals get a grunge flair and guitars get the typical chorus vibe of the 80s. At the same time, the device does much more than a typical floor pedal or plug-in: it transforms the sound into stereo and gives it unbelievable depth and breadth without muddy or opaque sound.
I am extremely satisfied with this purchase. Firstly, I am rating this unit on it's own merit and ignoring any comparisons with the original. The original units all differ when placed side by side. The effect you get is pretty much bang on for what I want; a subtle stereo width effect with subtle movement.
I have seen a few YouTube videos stating that it's more of a chorus than the anticipated stereo enchantment effect. These are incorrect, it provides the exact type of subtle width I anticipate to use this unit for.
Have already run pads, vocals, hats and various other elements through the BBD-320 and am very happy with the results. Some people talk of modding it to adjust the mod speeds, I am very happy with how this is already. If I wanted an exact replica I would go down other avenues, such as purchasing the Boss pedal.
This device has a character of it's own, which is very close to the original units but with a slightly more modulation movement. If you are seeking an exact clone, you can DIY cheaply and lower the modulation rate. However I like to think of this unit as a having a character of it's own and will be keeping it as is.
Build quality is great, the remote function means you can bypass whilst sat in the optimal listening position, the connections are quality, unit is quiet for 99% of purposes, aesthetically it looks great and I have no issue with the 2U rack space. For the price it's a brilliant investment and highly recommended.
warm and subtle chorus- can give a sense of space when you don't want reverb, but of course this takes away from the impact/immediacy of your sound- which is the point. not too wobbly. well made.
I’m in the enviable position of being able to compare the Klark Teknik against the original Roland SDD320. IMO the build quality isn’t as robust as the Roland, but that’s not surprising given the cost of the Klark, and whilst the Klark certainly tries hard to emulate the legendary sound of the Roland, it sounds a bit thinner. The Roland sounds warmer with a little more depth, so rather more analogue than digital. That said the Klark represents good value for money, and gives a very passable imitation of the original.
I love this unit for the really nice subtle effect it has, especially on mono sources. As others have said, it's so subtle, you don't realise it's there until you turn it off.
